I pre-ordered my xbox 360 today! I already have the lube out and I am ready to jerk it in anticipation of this fine piece of machinery. I went to EB Games and they said that they had one more slot for a pre-order, so I dropped $50 down on the $399 model.
The high end model is pretty much the only way to go. It has a 20 gig hard drive and there is a rumor that some games will require the hard drive. This version also comes with a few extras such as a wireless controller, headset, and media remote. I don't know why they can't just sell one model because this is going to confuse novice gamers and software developers. Some people will go for the cheaper model, then they will be disappointed once they realize what they are missing out on. Developers run the risk of alienating consumers if they are required to own the hard drive to play their games.
They should have one model and it should come with a 20 gig hard drive. I think they are selling a crippled version just to appeal to a broader market and sell more systems. If you can come up with $300 bucks for a new console, then another $100 more shouldn't be a problem. Ever heard of selling your soul on ebay? All next generation games need to use the hard drive because the limitations of present day dvd hardware are going to be evident. Some software developers are already running out of space on todays standard dual layer format.

I read a write up about Call of Duty 2 in the new xbox magazine and it is looking good. Call of Duty and Call Of Duty- United Offensive were great games that consumed many hours of my time. Just ask my wife. If I only buy one launch title it will be COD 2.
